Pernyataan Solidaritas Internasional 2018: Menentang Unjuk Kekuatan Armada Internasional di Jeju 2018 

Tolak Unjuk Kekuatan Armada Internasional di Jeju
Jadikan Pulau Jeju menjadi Pulau Perdamaian
Jadikan Samudera Pasifik Samudera Perdamaian

Kami,  organisasi dan individu, sangat menentang Unjuk  Kekuatan Armada International yang akan diadakan di Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju di Desa Gangjeong mulai 10 Oktober. Ini adalah acara terbesar oleh Angkatan Laut Korea sejak pangkalan angkatan laut Jeju dibangun dan sekitar 50 kapal dan 20 pesawat dari 45 negara akan berkumpul di Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju. Inspeksi kelautan, acara open house di kapal dan di pangkalan, serta  pameran industri militer yang dijadwalkan .
Unjuk kekuatan armada internasional, mengumpulkan kapal perang dari seluruh dunia, akan meningkatkan ketegangan militer di kawasan itu dan menciptakan awan gelap konflik di tengah-tengah keinginan yang berkembang untuk membuka era baru perdamaian dan koeksistensi serta mengakhiri perang di semenanjung Korea dan Asia Timur Laut.
Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju dibangun di atas kekerasan negara terhadap penduduk desa, kebohongan, dan perusakan lingkungan alam. Kita semua ingat proses konstruksi “yang memaksa” (koersif) dan berbagai masalah adanya Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju. Sambil mendukung keinginan penduduk pulau Jeju untuk membangun pulau yang indah ini sebagai Pulau Perdamaian, kami sangat menentang unjuk kekuatan Armada International yang diadakan di Pulau Jeju.
Sejak pembentukan Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju, militerisasi Pulau Jeju telah dipercepat. Kapal perang dari berbagai negara termasuk kapal selam nuklir AS telah sering mengunjungi Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju. Selain itu, kapal induk nuklir AS juga akan bergabung dengan Parade Armada International. Kami khawatir bahwa unjuk kekuatan Armada Internasional ini akan memperluas gerbang Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju kepada kapal perang Jepang dan Amerika Serikat. Komandan Pasifik AS telah menyatakan keinginannya untuk menempatkan Perusak Stealth Zumwalt di Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju. Selain membangun pangkalan angkatan laut, Angkatan Laut Korea memperkuat korps marinir di Jeju dan juga menyatakan rencananya untuk menggunakan bandara kedua sebagai pangkalan udaranya yang secara paksa dibangun oleh Pemerintah di Seongsan, Pulau Jeju.
Militerisasi Pulau Jeju akan memadamkan perdamaian di Semenanjung Korea, dan memperlancar militerisasi di Samudera Hindia dan Pasifik. AS mengubah Komando Pasifik menjadi Komando Indo-Pasifik pada bulan Mei lalu. Ini jelas menunjukkan keinginannya untuk memprioritaskan hegemoni militer di Samudera Hindia dan Pasifik, bukan kerja sama secara damai. AS belum menyembunyikan rencananya untuk membentuk aliansi militer semacam NATO di kawasan Indo-Pasifik. Banyak organisasi perdamaian prihatin bahwa Pulau Jeju akan menjadi pos terdepan untuk menghadapi China oleh AS dan sekutu militernya.
Dalam situasi seperti ini, unjuk kekuatan Armada International akan secara internasional menetapkan keberadaan dan penggunaan militer Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Jeju. Ini sangat membahayakan visi masa depan Pulau Jeju sebagai ‘Pulau Perdamaian’ yang dinyatakan oleh pemerintah Korea Selatan pada tahun 2005. Ini juga merusak lingkungan Pulau Beom yang ditetapkan sebagai Cagar Biosfer UNESCO.
Kedua Korea menyatakan ‘era baru perdamaian’ dan berjalan menuju pembentukan sistem perdamaian dan denuklirisasi di semenanjung Korea. Upaya orang Korea untuk beralih ke perdamaian dan koeksistensi dari permusuhan masa lalu harus dikaitkan dengan upaya untuk membuat Pasifik damai. Kami mendukung keinginan penduduk pulau Jeju untuk membuat Pulau Damai “yang sesungguhnya” dan menentang militerisasi Pasifik. Unjuk kekuatan Armada International di Pulau Jeju harus segera dihentikan.
